Formula 1 Boat Racing Photography Shane Cleminson

I have always said my job was my hobby, and I still love it. I am often reminded of this when I find things in life I love that have nothing to do with photography or work and I still want to photograph them.

This was a bucket list day for me. As a teenager I raced small hydroplanes and V-Hull boats with my dad. I was actually a Mercury Outboard Certified mechanic and managed a small dealership for a few years before I started photography as a full time gig. I have always dreamed of one day watching an F1 boat race. Naturally when I had a rare summer weekend with no wedding I was excited to find an F1 boat race in LaPorte IN not far away. The race was at Stone Lake and was not more than an hours drive.

I was like a kid in a candy store walking through the pits and looking at all the engines and boats close up. The smells, the sounds and the sights brought back so many fun memories of my own days in the pits with my dad and friends as we got our boats ready for races. The racing was tough with choppy water, but still so much fun to watch. Here are some favorite photos I took during my day.
